Recycle The Gulf® Program
Invested in Enriching Our Community and Protecting Our Environment
After recognizing recurring failures in the permanent practice of recycling offshore, Tech Oil Products, Inc. developed the Recycle the Gulf® program in 2002. The goal was to recycle rig and platform waste generated offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. The challenge was to devise a manageable plan that both the CEO of an oil company and the cook on a drilling rig could implement and accept.
The Recycle the Gulf® program provides a means to reduce and separate the volume of waste on offshore locations with deposit bins onshore. Recycle the Gulf® collects, grades, and accounts for the volume received. Lastly, the recyclables are donated to ARC of Iberia which benefits people with disabilities.
In 2004, Tech Oil's Recycle the Gulf® program was honored with the Gulf Guardian Award by the Gulf of Mexico Program. Our offshore waste recycling program was recognized for its “collaborative environmental efforts leading to neighborhood solutions that transcend political boundaries” – Benjamin Grumbles, EPA. Recycle the Gulf® is completely voluntary on behalf of the oil companies and drilling contractors.
To date, Tech Oil and the Recycle the Gulf® participants have recycled over 4.1 million pounds of waste. In addition, The ARC has been able to employ 20 disabled individuals through the Recycle the Gulf® program.
